Dr. SEZIRAHIGA Yves, the Acting Rector opening the workshop

The Institute of Legal Practice and Development (ILPD) organized a 4-days workshop for both internal and external trainers to discuss and approve the modules' contents of new specialized programs offered by the ILPD. The workshop is taking place in Lemigo Hotel from August 22nd to 25th, 2022.

Opening the workshop, Dr. SEZIRAHIGA Yves, the Acting Rector explained that the aim of the workshop is to contribute to the development of the content so that trainers teaching in the same module would know where to start and where to end because they knew that their colleagues had or would have covered the remaining.

He said, “the workshop will help us to develop content so that for example if one trainer intervenes in certain program, covering private contract, then I know where to start and where to end because I already know that my colleague has or will cover the remaining.”

“And also this comes with the methodology. We want these courses to be practical, discussing cases; you are experienced trainers, lawyers, judges, advocates, practitioners in your respective institutions. You know what is going on well in your domain that is the experience needed to be shared for the trainers and trainees.” He added.

Me Kabuye Jean, ILPD trainer and the head of Post Graduate Diploma in Civil Procedure Practice says that this program will have a balanced inputs from different practitioners as this workshop brought together professionals in this domain ( judges, advocates, professional bailiffs, mediators and arbitrators) so.  Additionally, the current worship will contribute in responding to the community needs in terms of knowledge as well to update the content of the programme ILPD is offering.

Me Valery Gakunzi, Senior Advocate and a trainer in Post Graduate Diploma in Civil Procedure Practices finds this workshop important because it is going to develop best practical cases suitable for these specialized programs. ILPD is going to become excellent in legal practice by graduating specialized practitioners.

The five new specialized programs whose contents are under discussion and development are the Post graduate diploma in Civil Procedure Practice (DCPP), Diploma in Contract and Tort Law Practice (DCTP), the Diploma in Corporate and Insolvency Law Practice (DCIP), Diploma in Criminal Process and Sentencing (DCPS) and Post Graduate Diploma in Criminal Process for International Crimes and Genocide Ideology (DCPGI). These programs were developed in order to train specialized legal practitioners that today's globalization market wants.

At first, ILPD offered two major Post Graduate Diplomas in Legal Practice (DLP) and in Legislative Drafting (DLD). As per now, the Institute counts fourteen post graduate diploma programs in total.
